TRADITIONAL THAI YOGA MASSAGE Nuad Thai Bo Ruan (Lit. Ancient Thai way of massage) has its roots in the 2500 year old Bhuddist spiritual tradition and the indigenous Thai culture and customs. It exists in 2 basic forms, the Royal style, reserved for the Royal family, which is mostly acupressure, and the dynamic popular style. The popular style is known as Cheloysiak, it is rhythmic, creative and ultimately intuitive, flowing from the Heart centre. It is holistic, non reductive, seeking to facilitate the flow of LOM (Prana, Chi, universal energy) wherever it may be blocked. The massage uses rhythmic pressing with the palms, thumbs, elbows, feet, even knees, and passive assisted stretching of muscles and fascia, joint mobilisation. Both giver and receiver assume positions and postures which resemble the asanas of hatha yoga . For the receiver, this unblocking can be experienced as relief from pain, increase range of movement, lightness, deep relaxation, even bliss. For the giver, the deep meditative state and rhythmic motion with correct breathing also leads to a profound sense of well being. In Thailand Nuad Thai can be found in Monasteries, Hospitals, Massage clinics, in the home and in the street markets.
